New Gallardo GT3 revealed

When Lamborghini wants to turn its road-going supercars into track-going weapons, it turns to Reiter Engineering.

The German firm has been rolling out race-prep Lambos since 1994, and has just got its hands on the new Gallardo, the LP560.

Welcome, then, the new Gallardo GT3 car. Not a bad bit of kit, eh? Though it puts out the same power as the road-going Gallardo - a not-insignificant 417kW - it's the weight that's the headline figure here. The Reiter LP560 tips the scales at just 1,190kg, a full 220kg lighter than the road car.

Which means it'll be brutally quick - and sticky, too. That giant rear wing contributes to massive downforce, a full eight per cent more than on the previous Gallardo racer.

Naturally you get big track-spec tyres and a racing sequential gearbox, along with ceramic brakes designed to cope with a full 24-hour race.

As you'd expect, you'll have to pay Reiter a hefty chunk of cash for your race-ready GT3 Gallardo: around $460,000 AUD, in fact.

But here's the best bit: for an extra $34,285 AUD or so, Reiter will upgrade your piffling GT3 car into a full-bastard GT2 car, ready to do battle with the Porsche GT3 RS, Ferrari F430 and Aston V8 Vantage.
