Ford’s all-new C-Max heads to Frankfurt with swoopy styling and lots of new tech

Ford C-Max

This is the new Ford C-Max, set to debut in Frankfurt next week to do battle with the Citroen C4 Picasso and Renault Scenic.

Like its French rivals, it’ll be available in five- and seven-seat guise. The car you’re looking at here is the five-seater: the bigger C-Max will feature slightly different exterior styling and sliding rear doors.

The C-Max is based on the latest generation of Ford’s C-segment platform, which will also underpin the next Focus and Kuga.

Though tech details are scarce, Ford has confirmed that the C-Max will get a new 1.6-litre ‘EcoBoost’ direct injection petrol engine, and plenty of exciting electronic flim-flammery including semi-automatic parallel parking and a blind-spot detection system.

It’s a smart looking thing, too. The C-Max carries over a bunch of the styling cues from the Iosis-MAX concept revealed at the Geneva show earlier this year, and blends them with elements of Fiesta and Kuga.

That swept-back roofline is much more extreme than anything we’ve seen in the MPV segment before, while Ford is promising that the C-Max’s interior will be far more upmarket than the cabins of its rivals.

We’ll get a better look at the C-Max in Frankfurt next week before it goes on sale in the UK in the middle of next year.

So will Ford have 3 7 seat options now C Max S Max and Galaxy or will the Galaxy get the chop?

Looks great. But being a young single, i'd still have a Focus insted.

This car was clearly made by accountants. Kuga - SUV plastic = C-Max III (literally how they designed it). And let's make a 7-seat version, because everyone else is. Uh...

Stig'sIrishCousin, I can't imagine the Galaxy will be axed - it's still the benchmark in it's class. Besides, the S-Max is more of a sporty 5 2 seater, whereas the Galaxy takes me, my 3 siblings, and my 2 parents on holiday with plenty of space for luggage. Ford merely have an option for all family sizes now (although in my opinion a 5-Seat MPV is just a bloated hatchback and not "Multi-Purpose Vehicle" at all).
