We’ve just found some footage from Gran Turismo 5 – which, if you’ve been holidaying on one of Saturn’s moons for the last few years, is an eagerly anticipated racing simulation game for the popular ‘Playstation 3’ console – and there are two excellent bits of news.
One, it looks gorgeous. Genuinely, jaw-droppingly lifelike.
Two, it has damage rendering. Oh yes. With the notable exception of the Top Gear test track, there wasn’t much missing from GT4 – but we’ve been crossing our fingers, toes and every other body part that’s vaguely crossable in the hope that GT5 would get damage.
We don’t know exactly how much damage GT5 will get – it’s rumoured that only a small percentage of the game’s cars will be smashable, perhaps limited to select racing and rally cars – and it’s still not clear whether damage will affect the cars’ handling. Knowing Polyphony’s attention to detail, we’d be surprised if it didn’t.
Though the release date of GT5 continues to slip, we’re hoping to see the full version early next year. Fingers crossed...
So take a look, and keep in mind that the guys over at Gamersyde appear to have simply shot this off their telly:

Wow, thats so mega damage. The creator of GT5 has already said there will not be any damage. And those physics are so messed up. Forza's better. (I'm not going to be a geek and say "wow first comment"

"Forza is better." Compared to GT4, yes. Compared to GT5, yes..I mean hell no. It is ridiculous how easy it is to get a car sideways in Forza2 and maintain it. Either I made a lucky tuning change to the suspension or I found a glitch in Forza 2. On more than one occasion I was able to keep a Lancia in an indefinite circular drift. And I'm not that great of a gamer bur rather I think that game was just "arcade" bullshit, which should come to no surprise.

@JohnAstonMartin I'm disagreeing with you there. I know, Forza is a brilliant game, and after playing both Forza 2 and GT5P, Forza 2 came out on top in terms of physics. Obviously Forza 2 beat it in quantity as well, but that's expected because GT5P is only a demo. But, however, after following both games, reading a countless number of previews and information about the game, and watching the videos, I have my hopes up that GT5 will most likely be a better game that Forza 3. That's my opinion, but I'd love to debate. Here's some facts about GT5 and the main reasons I think it will be a lot better. http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-game-features-announced/

I am surprised at the devout following of Forza 3. I have played Forza to death, but even at its best it never feels more than a appetiser for Gran Turismo. Forza took a while to get going with number 3 starting to hit the right marks. Gran Turismo was a bullseye from the start, with every installment since hitting the triple 20. I agree with IronicalBalls, Forza is fun but ultimately less satisfying. Even for a glorified demo disc GT5 Prologue is eminently playable and offers a very rewarding gaming experience, and a sign of things to come. Maybe Prologue as an appetiser is an even tastier meal than Forza's full serving. I think Forza is a great game, but is only elevated to a AAA title in the hearts and minds of 360 owners... because, well, Gran Turismo is only available on Playstation.
