Having just released its first in-house supercar – the excellently gullwinged SLS – has Merc’s AMG department gone a bit power crazy?
AMG has announced an upgraded version of the ballistic C63 AMG, a car we’ve never felt to be lacking in power.
They call it the Performance Package Plus, and it puts out a mighty 487bhp, 30bhp more than the standard C63 and just a few horsepower less than Merc’s DTM racer.
The power upgrade comes courtesy of a load of oily bits borrowed from the SLS. New forged alloy pistons, new crank rods and a lightweight crankshaft contribute to a 0-62mph time of just 4.4 seconds, with the C’s top speed cruelly limited to 155mph.
The only visual modification comes in the shape of a carbon fibre spoiler, with a bit of extra leather and Alcantara on the inside.
But here’s the really good bit: the Performance Package Plus will be available in both saloon and estate form. A family estate packing 487bhp? This AMG power trip is just fine by us…
C63 AMG: now with added SLS
Merc adds a bit more beef to its already-beefy C-Class. We’ll take ours in estate flavour, ta

the old car was a lunatic and ridiculously tail-happy... i can't even imagine how bad this one will be... if it's now available with a manual, then these foibles are worth it. but it it's an auto, i'll stick to the m3.
