Peugeot 3008

Peugeot has announced prices for its 3008 hatch-MPV-crossover-device, which goes on sale in the UK this November.

Prices start at £16,545, which is £3,050 more than the 308 hatch on which the 3008 is based. However, painstaking measurement reveals it to be a full nine centimetres longer, 14cm higher and eight centimetres wider than the 308, so you do get a whole lot more car for your cash.

It'll be launched with two petrol and three diesel engines. The ‘sporty' option will be the 150bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, which will hit 60mph in just under nine seconds, while the 150bhp HDI diesel looks likely to provide the best balance of performance and economy, hitting 60mph in just under 10 seconds and returning 60mpg.

Peugeot is lining the 3008 up against the Nissan Qashqai, VW Tiguan and Ford Focus C-Max, and reckons that, spec-for-spec, it undercuts the competition by as much as two grand.

Looks like it should be a worthy rival for the all-conquering Qashqai, then. With the excellent Skoda Yeti soon to arrive, the slightly-indefinable-crossover segment is hotting up nicely...

What do you think?

I don't understand where Peugeot get their figures from. The 3008 in exclusive trim with 1.6 diesel 110bhp only matches with the Qashqai's N-Tec trim and the Qashqai 1.5 dci 106bhp in that trim is £600 less without any extras on either car.

I test drove a 3008 manual petrol and thought the car was great. I ordered and got my 3008 diesel automatic sport and took delivery late November 2010 and what a come down. One reason I got the car because of the published excellent fuel consumption, but sadly on normal driving these are not achievable, even on the motorway consumption is disappointing. The automatic gear box is designed to help with fuel economy, but the way it performs results in the car lurching forward (which hurs my back), or loosing power when you least extpect it, worst is when the car looses power coming off junctions or roundabouts. Other vehicles then have to adjust because of my cars failings, it is like a death trap and scarey to drive. I feel Peugeot should have recommended that we test drove the a diesel automatic before purchasing, as I would not have bought it. I have only had the car 9 weeks and I wish I had never got it. I will not be taking a replacement from Peorgeot when the time comes.

I purchased a 3008 after taking a very long test drive etc., The mpg is pretty good but as splodgeleeds says it is dangerous and I'm glad someone else has made this comment as I thought it was me! But, it should not be happening. I've had to keep the car until recently but it will be the lowest mileage car I have ever sold. The semi automatic gearbox lets you down when you pull out into traffic as if it is still in neutral, I spoke to Peugeot and they told me that there is a delay of ? seconds and it is a SAFETY FEATURE!!! the same feature is on the electronic handbrake to help with hill starts. There have been other problems such as a dodgy aircon unit which meant the windscreen would not clear now replaced, faulty indicators which have also been replaced. I also find that the seating position is not quite right, feels as though slightly offset. Anyways it is gone. Very dissappointed as the v old 309 was one of the best cars I ever owned.
