Super Snake

If you thought that 700bhp tuned Mustang we showed you last week was a bit, well... un-muscular, here's the new Super Snake from longtime Ford tuners Shelby.

Based on the Mustang GT500, the Super Snake puts out 725bhp from a supercharged version of Ford's 5.4-litre V8, and it looks properly mean: check out those rear quarter window scoops - no idea where they're drawing air into, but don't let that sort of thing worry you - the huge bonnet scoop and the carbon fibre splitter.

It's not just visual tweakery, however: the Super Snake gets Ford Racing suspension with adjustable dampers and stiffer springs, and huge 20-inch wheels supporting sticky Pirelli tyres.

It'll cost our lucky American cousins around $34,000, plus a donor GT500. If 725bhp sounds a bit meaty for you, Shelby also offers a range of more modest upgrades for the more modest Mustangs in the range.

Shelby has been tuning Mustangs since way back in 1965, but the Shelby Mustang nameplate died out in 1970, only to be revived in 2007.

Now watch Jeremy's race in a Lotus against Stig in a Stang:

Weird, i mentioned in the 700hp tuner thing the Exige v Mustang race, and the super snake, and here they are. This appears to be the 2010 one though, and it looks less of a change than the rest of the 2010 range, but still not as nice as the older models.

WHY ARE YOU TUNING MUSTANGS??? THERE ARE OTHER CARS THAT DESERVE TUNING, THE MUSTANG ORIGINALLY HAD LOADS OF POWER, IF YOUR GOING TO TUNE IT DO SOMETHING ABOUT ITS TERRIBLE SUSPENSION!!!.

@A4RON-24 Muscle cars, such as the Mustang, can never have enough power. They are all about fun, smoking rubber and racing between the lights and in today's eco conscious world these cars, this on especially, stick two fingers up at the PC losers that are too influential for their own good. The slightly crap suspension will make it go sideways and everything so it will be an absolute riot to drive. Originally a Merc SL65 AMG had 'loads' of power but that didn't stop Brabus ramping it up to 800bhp did it?

Wowee-sir-bob! That's one dang crazy-ass pony car ya got there. One question though - didn't the original Cobra-based Super Snake have 800bhp?

Hey A4R0n-24, did you read the bit where it said "Ford Racing suspension and adaptive dampers"? Besides, a base Mustang has a piddly 300bhp. This is much more of a noisy, smokey rioting hotrod. Much more of a Muscle Car. I love it!
