Land Rover DC100 concept revealed
You're looking at the new Land Rover Defender 4x4. Maybe...
This extraordinary design proposal is one of the ideas knocking around LRHQ that's filed under ‘Defender successor' and it'll be revealed in full at this year's Frankfurt motor show.
Yep. That's right. Land Rover's building a NEW Defender for 2015, 67 years after the original clattered onto forecourts. And, as you'd expect, LR's design team's being very cautious about tinkering with an outline that could feasibly outlast religion.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's Director of Design, says: "Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide. The DC100 isn't a production-ready concept, but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."
John Edwards, LR's Global Brand Director, Land Rover added:" Loved the world over for its simple, honest and distinctive design, we are determined that the new Defender will be true to its heritage, while meeting the requirements of a changing global market."
What do you think, TopGear.commers? Messing with a classic or a redeisgn decades overdue?

Dear Top Gear, How exciting a new LandRover concept, I hope it is as good off road as the origonal design improved over the years and wont have that useless independant suspension and CV joints as this prototype does. The front bib hangs down too far and it will dribble with the first puddle crossed The front pillars are wider than the origonal?and a two piece windscreen was a smarter design i reckon? Why not make the entire front a serious piece of kit and have it unclip with lock clips to reveal a beautiful engine owners could polish and tinker with if need be? Farmers and idiots liked the metal bumpers so they could bump things The 3 seat squabs where in fact a comfortable bed or snooze area while hard at work! Thank you Regards LandRoverPETER
