Novitec Tridente GranTurismo

GranTuned

Doing the full tuning works on Italian supercars always seems wrong, somehow. Whereas American seems to lend itself to the more-power-and-bodywork treatment, it seems almost sacrilegious to subject beautiful Italian metal to the same fate.

That’s never stopped German tuning house Novitec, mind. They’ve already brought us the supercharged Ferrari 599 and supercharged F430, and now we’ve got a first look at the, er, supercharged Maserati GranTurismo S.

That supercharger, along with a remapped ECU and a new exhaust system, boosts the power out of the GT’s 4.7-litre V8 from a piffling 322kW to a whopping 447kW.

To deal with all that power, the Tridente GranTurismo (for that is what Novitec calls it) gets a revised suspension systems, massive 21-inch wheels on the back (the fronts are mere 20s) and a big carbon fibre bodykit.

And you know what? We don’t hate it. OK, it doesn’t quite have the ice-cool, understated chic of the stock GTS, but it’s definitely not bad.

Or are we plainly wrong? Speak the truth and we shall listen.
