Causing a Rukus

You'll undoubtedly be seeing a lot of the new Toyota Rukus over the next few months, especially if you're a hip young thing. A nick taller than a Corolla and a tad shorter than a RAV4, the boxy, bulbous Rukus is shooting hoops in the same court as the Kia Soul. It's built on a Corolla platform and will run a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine used across the Toyota family. It'll start from a not-small $27,490, riding through to $31,790.

It's not a new model in the Toyota family, though; in fact, in car terms it's out the other side of adolescence. It's known as the Scion xB in the US, and as a Corolla derivative back in Japan.

Toyota is expects to move about 200 Rukuses - Rukii? - a month - not a lot when you consider it moves about 4000 Corollas in a similar period. As for the looks... I'm not convinced, but I haven't been a hip you thing for about 20 years now...

Check out more pics of the Rukus right here. And watch out for our very good friends at TopGear Australia magazine, who plan to take a Rukus and tart the boogers up out of one...

Yo, I saw one of those just today. They look exactly like a Scion because, er, they ARE a Scion.

These plain ones are alright but the American version which appeared in Top Gear Australia Magazine May 2010 looked awesome.
