Utes drown in Darwin
A Nissan Navara and a Toyota HiLux ended up sleeping with the fishes after a botched towing attempt on a Darwin beach. The HiLux driver was attempting to retrieve a broken-down boat from the rising waters when it became bogged in wet sand. A kind-hearted onlooker offered their Navara to shift the stricken HiLux, but ended up getting both cars in a particularly, erm... watery situation.
Two tow ropes were snapped before the Navara pulled the HiLux free, but the high tide had left the two utes stranded on a sandbar, while the water continued to rise. The only way out was to drive through the water back to land, but this plan was quickly sunk when the Navara became stuck in the deep water.
The assembled crowd gave up on the rescue by nightfall, leaving both cars to suffer a watery death.
A case of local idiocy for our ever-growing fail gallery, perhaps?
