V8 Supercars join Top Gear Festival
V8 Supercar superstars Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup will join Jeremy Clarkson, James May and The Stig at next year's TopGear Festival in Sydney, organisers have confirmed.
Newly-crowned V8 champ Whincup and superstar teammate Lowndes will jump aboard their V8 supercars and take on the makeshift TopGear track, completing some good old TopGear-flavoured challenges, including timed laps. And burnouts. (That bit's not confirmed; we just hope they'll do burnouts).
The V8 supercar lads join the already-confirmed Mark Webber and Red Bull Racing squad, which will roll out one of its ballistic Formula One demo cars at the event, making the V8 supercars sound like guinea pigs.
Meanwhile, lovers of old school Australian muscle will also be pleased to hear that Touring Car Masters has accepted its event invite, with a contingent of pre-1976 Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers and Monaros to hit the track during the weekend.
TopGear Festival organisers have also confirmed three new celebrities for the event's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. Ex-NRL star Matty Johns, former Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell and Triple M radio hosts Gus Worland and Mark Geyer are locked-in to do battle for the crown of fastest celebrity. Organisers have cordoned-off a 1.8km morsel of the track expressly for the purposes of celebrity embarrassment.
And Radical Australia will also host the first round of its 2013 championship at the festival, holding two sprint races and a 50-minute feature race over the course of the weekend.
TopGear Festival Sydney will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park (Eastern Creek) on the weekend of March 9-10, 2012. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
