VW Scirocco confirmed for Oz
VW Australia has finally confirmed it'll bring the Scirocco R hatch here in 2012, as we predicted back in September last year. At the same time, it'll kill off the importation of the very similarly-specced Golf R three-door, neatly sidestepping the question of 'which 2.0-litre turbocharged sporty three-door VW htch do I buy for about $50,000?'
The Scirocco should be a right little corker of a thing, with a chunk less weight (more than 100kg) and a slipperier profile than a Golf. As mentioned, it'll share the same mechanicals as the Golf R, which will continue to be sold as a five-door in Oz.
There will be one spec only, and you'll get to see it at the Australian Motor Show in Melbourne in July.

I'm excited too, but sorry TG " it'll share the same mechanicals as the Golf R" is incorrect. The Golf R is AWD, the Scirocco is FWD.

About time. Can someone tell me when a newer model Scirocco is due? The Type R coming here will already be three years old by the time it reaches our shores.
