Ford Falcon

Once upon a time this is the car that every Australian family wanted, other than the ones that drove Commodores. But its appeal has faded at roughly the same speed petrol prices have risen, despite the fact that it’s better than ever.

• Comfort

  Excellent, if only taxi drivers weren't so rough on them they'd probably still be comfortable after 200,000km.

  

• Performance

  If you want performance, there are plenty of other cars you could buy, but this one will eat up the highway miles with ease and won't exactly embarrass you off the lights either.

  

• Cool

  No.

  

• Quality

  Over the years, Ford's quality control has gotten better and better, but the words "recall" and "new Falcon" still appear in the same sentence a little too often.

  

• Handling

  Pretty bloody good for a family car, thanks for asking.

  

• Practicality

  That's why people buy it. It even has a nice little pocket for a box of tissues. Awww. Kittens and puppies all round.

  

• Running costs

  If it's cheap enough for a taxi driver to make money out of, it must be okay.
