Our verdict

This is the kind of car that makes you proud to be Australian and happy to be alive. It also makes you make strange, ape-like grunting sounds. Damn but it’s good.

Comfort

Surprisingly good for something so hard-edged. Being based on a giant family car it’s also wonderfully roomy and a genuine five-seater.

Performance

Yes, lots of it, like 310kW of it. So much, in fact, that it makes your spinal fluid boil and bubble. If you want fast, this is where it’s at.

Cool

This depends very much on your personal taste. If you have any, you’ll probably describe the FPV as brutally boganesque. But it’s take-no-prisoners attitude to styling has to be admired.

Quality

The ones we’ve driven have been pretty much flawless, but there’s always that lingering doubt about locally built product, sadly.

Handling

Like an All Black, it’s surprisingly nimble for something so big, and the steering feedback’s not as lumpy as you might expect, either.

15 out of 20

Practicality

Yes, you can have performance and still fit pretty much all of your worldly goods, and relatives, in a car.

Running costs

The F6 will allegedly return 12 litres per 100km, but OJ Simpson is allegedly innocent of murder, too. Tyres will set you back a bit as well.

TG Tips

Stuff hundred dollar bills into the fuel tank, it'll still be cheaper than driving this thing with anything like a heavy footy.
