A tough work ute that looks weird but does the job. It is a truck, so don’t expect car-like handling or ride.
-
Comfort
Reasonably comfortable for a workhorse, but still fairly taxing given its bouncy ride, big clunky Kenworth-style manual gearbox and considerable road, tyre and engine noise.
-
Performance
The 3.2-litre diesel is bloody good and had tremendous pull although it rattles like a bastard at low speeds. The petrol V6 is ok, but is outshone by the big diesel.
-
Cool
The Triton looks a bit strange thanks to the curves and sloping lines that really don't belong on a workhorse. Not so cool.
-
Quality
Pretty good for a tradie mobile. It doesn't feel like a passenger car, but the interior is better than many of those you'd find in most commercial vehicles.
-
Handling
The trade-off you make for the mud-plugging and towing big, heavy things is handling. So, it's no surprise that the Triton doesn't like corners and neither will you after the first one or two.
-
Practicality
If you need to carry lots and tow big things then the Triton is about as practical as you can get. A crew cab is available if you need to carry some other workers or the family.
-
Running costs
Triton running costs are on par with other commercial vehicles. Watch out for fuel consumption as both the petrol and diesel Tritons chug down the fossil fuel.
