All-terrain wheelchair

The Hex Hog 6x6 electric wheelchair can handle terrain that would leave ordinary wheelchairs stranded – in fact, its creator, Welsh engineer Sion Pierce, says it’s closer to an ATV than a wheelchair. "You can’t take the HexHog into supermarkets, but you can cross moorland, farmland or even peat bogs," explains Pierce. The Hex Hog is powered by a lithium-ion battery, and all six of the wheels are powered independently. With a range of between 10 and 20 kilometres, and a top speed of 13km/h, it allows users to explore places previously difficult to reach by wheelchair users. In the UK, it costs around $35,000, though – so mobility doesn’t come cheap…
