Sell your Falcon or Commodore ute and buy this - a Smart utility concept. Smart reckons that, some time down the track, Americans will downsize their thunderous SUVs and pick-ups for smaller things like this. We'll believe it when we see it.

This is the Tru140S concept by General Motors. Underneath, it's basically a Holden Cruze, using the same front-wheel-drive mechanical bits. Looks cool, but don't go smashing your piggy bank open anytime soon. There are no plans for production yet.

Over on the GM stand, the big bosses pulled the wraps off two concept cars - the oddly named 'Code130R' and 'Tru140S'. The one you see here is the Code. It's trying to be a BMW 1-Series Coupe, apparently. It uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder, sending power to the rear wheels. It's only a concept for now; GM hasn't decided if it will build it or not.

It's still three years away from being built, however. Which means that the only certain thing Honda engineers can say is how many wheels it's going to have. But it will look like this concept, they say, and expect it to be powered by a high revving V6 like the old one, but bolted to a hybrid powertrain and using AWD. Nice.
