Drive it in: Mercedes’ new C63 Black Series
And you’re going to require a car that can force lots of air through its open windows and into your lungs: the new C63 Black Series, quick enough to give you a banana-shaped mouth but also with suspension that can fit two or three large bumps in its mouth in one go. The C63 is therapy for your ears, too.

The first of a small army of C63 AMG Black Series coupes has just arrived in Australia.
Made in Germany just a few weeks ago, the first C63 Black arrived in Sydney this week aboard an Emirates Boeing 777, bound for the upcoming Formula One Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, where it will undertake official on-track duties.
Resplendent in its Diamond White paint finish, the AMG team in Germany worked overtime to ensure this car was ready for its Australian trip.
Mercedes will send 32 C63 Black Series coupes to Australia - all of which are already sold.
The Black is the most ferocious version of AMG's C63, with its 6.2-litre V8 making 380kW and 620Nm, slinging it from 0-100 in a surprisingly spritely 3.9 seconds.

You engage Drive in the seven-speed automatic gearbox, which uses an auto clutch instead of a torque converter. You select Race Start mode. You sink the accelerator pedal into the cottony carpet. The SL63 leaps to 100km/h in just 4.2 seconds (4.3 for the ‘normal' version). Your belly button folds around your spine, like a newspaper slamming into a telegraph pole in cyclonic winds.

Now put your brain into imagination mode. You're sitting in the revamped SL interior, the softly firm leather seats cradling your caboose, a lonely arrow of road beheld through the windscreen. You're sitting in the SL63 AMG with the optional Performance Package, which - by increasing turbo boost - ups power to 415kW and torque to a tremblingly bonkers 900Nm.
-
You would be correct. But there's more. Thanks to the SL's new aluminium/magnesium monocoque chassis, this version is a tremendous 125 kilograms lighter than the old model. And, at 800Nm, it has an intestine-crushing 170Nm more torques. It is indeed the same twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 in AMG's new ML63 and CLS63.

Mercedes has unveiled the newest animal in its AMG menagerie - the SL63, which ditches the old 6.2-litre V8 for Merc's new, 395kW twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8.
The Mercedes nerds among the ranks of the TopGear.com army will notice that this is a smidge more power than the old SL63, whose naturally aspirated V8 made 386kW.
