  • 44 little reasons why we love TopGear

Get a bit of paper, or clear some mental space. Tell us, what are the top 10 things you love most in your life? You're here with us on TopGear.com, so you might probably have cars on there, you might have driving, music, travelling. And, if you're like us, you might have TopGear.

For 10 years now, TopGear has enchanted and enriched the lives of a ridiculous amount of people. More than 350 million humans watch each episode. That's 16 times Australia's population, watching a fellow called Jeremy Clarkson slide a car around a runway in England. That's 700 million eyeballs watching James May attempt to drive a car, but wearing a sleeping bag.

So we can pretty safely establish one thing: we all love TopGear. The show has been around since 1977 but the current Clarkson-Hammond-May-Stig format (the one we love the most) has been around 10 years this year. That's right, for a whole decade we've sat spellbound by its unique formula of fast cars, humour and slight weirdness.

To celebrate 10 years of TG, we got a bit of paper and made a list of the 44 little reasons we fell for TopGear; we originally we set aside some mental space, but it was quickly filled by watching classic TG clips in our videos section.

So paper it was. And with 10 years and 147 episodes to work from, the list was large, swollen with reasons why we just freaking love this TV show. Each of which is listed here.

    36. Aston Martin DB9 Sub Zero Fridge.

The Aston was deemed "too cool" for the Cool Wall, and so was awarded its own little fridge. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is the only car ever to be granted entry to the Sub Zero Fridge.

It's been a while since we've seen the Cool Wall on TG. Some say it's never coming back...

    33. Uncool.

Reserved mostly for German cars, particularly BMWs and Mercedes, which are not cool. Jeremy once caused a fight with Richard Hammond because he attempted to put a BMW M6 in Sub Zero. BMWs belong in Uncool. And so too most supercars, because mortal humans stand no chance of ever affording them.

    34. Cool.

Small European cars, like the Peugeot 206, are generally cool. Unless they are owned by a TopGear presenter; any cars owned by one of the boys is automatically classed as Uncool. Like when Jeremy purchased a Ford GT, it was moved from Cool to Uncool. Only three supercars have ever been classed as cool: the Veyron, Mercedes SLR McLaren and Koenigsegg CCX (for its terrifyingly awesome amount of power).

    16. Richard getting better after his terrible Vampire crash.

When Hammond was left fighting for his life after this monstrous crash in a jet-powered car, it was something even Jeremy Clarkson couldn't joke about. But you could tell May and Clarkson were just glad to have their little Hamster back - visible when Clarkson welcomed Hammond back to the show: "It gives me really great pleasure, because I didn't think I'd be saying this at one point: ladies and gentleman, RICHARD HAMMOND!"

Jeremy wrote a very moving tribute to Richard when the crash happened. Read it here.

    15. Jeremy's Toybota.

Filled with foam and leakier than an Argentinean government office, but it had a ridiculously large engine attached to it, and looked hilarious, so it wins our love.

    12. The Follow-through.

The perilous hold-it-flat corner that once bit Stig in a certain Koenigsegg (you remember the one). Named for its potentially ruinous effect it could have on one's undergarments.

    11. That random 747.

Has witnessed many epic TG moments, sitting way off in the background, doing its jumbo jet thing. It hasn't flown since 2002 (when the current TG format started) and still can't fly; it's used by Dunsfold Aerodrome mainly for filming and television. It starred in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace and is the "only 747 in Europe available exclusively for filming".

    8. Gambon.

The final turn before the finish line, named in honour of Sir Michael Gambon, who completed the turn on two wheels way back in episode eight of series one. Prior to this, the corner was known as "Carpenters Corner".

    "Aaaaand across the line!"

    41. The Reasonably Priced Car.

There have been three Reasonably Priced Cars during the last 10 years of TG: firstly, a Suzuki Liana. Second, a Daewoo Lacetti. And now the current RPC, the Kia Cee-apostrophe-D.

    Reasonably Priced Car lap records:

Suzuki Liana (2002-2005): Ellen MacArthur, 1:46.7

Daewoo Lacetti (2006-2010): Jay Kay, 1:45.81

    Kia Cee'd (2010-): Matt LeBlanc, 1:42.1

Formula One drivers (who always use the Liana): Sebastian Vettel, 1:44.0
