In pics: Nissan's new V8 Supercar

After it was booted from V8 Supercars at the end of 1992 – for winning too much – Nissan is back. And it’s hungry for some Ford and Holden blood.

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

The gold-covered GT-R was sold to a mystery buyer. It is powered by Nissan's psycho 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, making an eye-bleedingly insane 388kW and 611Nm. In Australia, your regular, battery-farmed GT-R costs $170,800.

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

The special, gold-covered GT-R was initially only made to be sold on eBay for charity, but Bolt liked it so much that Nissan is building one for his personal collection back home in Jamaica. And it won't be the only GT-R in his garage, either. He already has a black one. And we know which one we wouldn't take to the shops.

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

Usain Bolt: six-time Olympic gold medallist and officially the fastest man on earth. But how does Bolt get his speed fix when he's not angrily running up and down a bit of Olympic turf?

Cars (of course). Bolt, 26, has earned more than $6 million since he exploded into the Olympic spotlight at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Not that he needs to spend it on fast cars when there's plenty of people out there willing to give them to him for free.

Nissan, for example, built Bolt this GT-R - covered in a layer of real gold. The car was auctioned off on Sunday for charity, with $184,450 going to the Usain Bolt Foundation.

And we hope he gave Bolt some driving tips on the way, because Bolt hasn't got the best history when it comes to driving...

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

Nissan has plans to build a limited edition Bolt GT-R model at some stage. Its suspension and engine will be tuned by Bolt himself. Bolt drove a gaggle of GT-Rs at Nissan's test track in October where Nissan's engineers were surely watching carefully.

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

Bolt can do 0-44.72km/h in less than five seconds. The GT-R, meanwhile, can do 0-100km/h in less than three seconds. The fastest accelerating man on earth, with one of the fastest accelerating cars: love at first sight.

  • Bolt's gold GT-R

The car's interior is also peppered with real gold bits, including a gold plate embossed with Bolt's autograph. "It's a unique car, one of a kind, signed by none other than Usain Bolt, fastest man in the world, the legend," Bolt says cheekily. He adds that he's glad to be able to "give back to my primary school, my high school, and different things" by auctioning the car off.
