Mention the d word and many of us think noisy, stinky, sluggish. VW's latest Bug to bombard our towns is the 1.9 TDI PD. Not only does it look similar to the old Herbie (with a major laser-corrected facelift) but it sounds just like it too.
Or so you would have thought. Because actually, I lied. The reality is that once you're out of second gear you can hardly tell you're at the wheel of a diesel. Most diesels nowadays, especially in the VW family, sound reasonably quiet whilst performance is just as good as sister petrol models. As is the case with the 1.9 TDI PD. This heavily disguised Golf with the added bonus of extra headroom is not only fashionable but with 5.5L/100km, cheap to run too. As standard, it includes all the regular safety aspects you would find on a VW, including four airbags, anti-lock brakes, and ESP - electronic stability programme you understand, not some supernatural ability to avoid traffic jams or float or anything.
Although the vibrant Cyber Green metallic you see here might be right up your street, I myself would go for a safer choice like Black, Reflex Silver, or the gorgeous, dramatic Red. I really can't see most of you blokes out there going for any of the more extrovert colours, especially if you want to stop your other halves pinching it all the time, but it's fair to say that green certainly turns heads.
