Bad week for Peugeot

Posted by Nick Trott at 9:50AM on Wednesday 17 September, 2008 0 Comments

Nick TrottPeugeot's underachieving sportscar team received some bad news at the weekend - and this was before they threw away certain victory in the Le Mans Series Championship at Silverstone.

The bad news is that the ACO - the Le Mans rulemakers - have issued a new set of regulations that aim restore 'sporting equality' between the petrol-powered cars and the diesels.

Last year, the diesel Peugeot 908 HDI FAP lapped the Le Mans circuit in the low 3min 20seconds - some 10seconds faster than the ACO are comfortable with.

The diesels will receive modifications to their air restrictors and a reduction in boost pressure.

Of course, bad news for Peugeot means bad news for Audi too. But the chaps at Lola and in particular Aston Martin must've grinned from ear-to-ear at the news.

Why? Their petrol-powered LM P1 car is proving to be the quickest non-diesel prototype at the moment, and next year will be Aston's 50th anniversary of their only outright Le Mans win...
