Ever wondered what fast looks like?
Is it, as in Bill's latest blog, a red 911 Turbo on full reheat in your rear view mirror?
Or is it the KTM X-Bow, which looks fast even when it's standing still.
Or is it, as Mikey says, purely a state of mind and different for everyone?
While all three are points worthy of a lengthy pub discussion, you're unlikely ever to get everyone to agree.
Unless you know someone who has bought a VW Golf GTI in the US. They will know exactly what fast looks like.
As of last March, every GTI buyer in the US gets given a 'Fast', a small, squat plastic mascot that looks like a fat demonic Sonic the Hedgehog.
The Fast has featured in a number of VW's TV commercials in the US - that have the payoff 'Make Friends With Your Fast' - and is designed to recapture the cult of the GTI among the tuner crowd.
Don't know about the car, but it's certainly created a cult for the little mascots. A couple have turned up on eBay for $1,000 a piece.
But what exactly is a Fast? This is what it says on the box Fast comes in:
'Inside most, but not all of us, there is a fast... Maybe you've never thought about what your fast looks like. But when we designed the GTI MkV, we did. We thought about what fast smells like and how much it weighs and what it eats for breakfast. It's all we thought about. Because we wanted this GTI to make your fast happy.'
So, according to VW, fast is a small, odourless plastic figurine that weighs as much as a couple of pencils and doesn't eat at all.
Is that right? What do you think fast should look like?

Quite frankly, properly fast should look like a blur with a scared face somewhere in the middle.
Fast should look like a streak of headlamps followed by pops and backfires in the quietest, most proper neighbourhood at 2am on a Monday morning.
I know what fast looks like. Try being in the backseat of a 350 Chevvy or a 620bhp Torana at 282km/h.
Now that's fast
I remember many years ago (in my horrible boy racer years, let's not talk about it too much) thinking I was fast in my Honda Civic VTEC, until one day when a Volvo T5 left me for dead.
I now drive a much quicker car than that Volvo these days, but I'll never forget that moment, seeing something so brick shaped, pull away from me, knowing there's absolutely nothing you can do to keep up.
That's what fast looks like.

Kinda hunky and sexy, dressed in super-speeder's black as you sit in that XKR (is it?) and with that one-kilometer stare.
