Brit Motor Show review

British Motor ShowSo we've had our annual whip around the British Motor Show. And there's been some pretty cool stuff to report.

We've seen global launches from the likes of Vauxhall, Renault, Ford, Honda, Lotus and, unforgettably, the NICE Car Company.

All accompanied by the usual glitz, glamour and dancing girls.

But overall, the whole event feels pretty subdued. There have been some notable absentees, too. BMW, for example. And Aston. What's wrong, guys? Have you forgotten us? (David Richards is here, mind.)

Stuff 'em. Who needs to see things like the DBS when the Quiet Car Company has its latest offerings on display?

And don't forget the Hyundai i10 ice cream van...

There have been some other cool bits and pieces, though. We've seen the Chevrolet Beat before, but it's worth mentioning again here. Because it could be the car that saves GM in Europe.

Kia displayed the grammatically challenging ex_cee'd too, which will give coupe-convertibles like the Focus CC and Astra TwinTop a run for their money.

The Cadillac Prover FC concept also looks good, and will probably come to the UK next year.

Finally, we promised you an update on the Honda OSM situation. After a light grilling, the designers admitted the car is purely a design concept at this stage.

It's all about the looks.

They want it to be the sort of car that says 'drive me'. And it does.

Those looks are apparently influenced by the environment too, but that's tougher to get your head around.

Just looks like a lightweight, funky roadster to us.

We'll be featuring more cool stuff from the show in the next issue of Top Gear magazine - out on August 7. Make sure you check it out.

  • I have just seen your pics of Lotus's new Evora and I think it's the star of this year's show. Not only is it a great-looking car, but it seems like it might be a nippy little fella, too.

  • Ah yes, I'll be heading up to the British Motor Show on Monday as usual. Not as excited about it this time, but always good for a day in London.

  • Hmmm, I might be alone on this, but I tend to think that Honda is pretty low on the attractive car list... Just me?

  • I just CANNOT believe you guys have missed the unveiling of the Lightning GT!!! How could you? What planet are you on?

I know, Jeremy won't like it 'cos it's not a 'real' car. By that I mean it doesn't burn petrol like all the other cars. Instead it is PURELY ELECTRIC! And it kicks arse!!!!

  • What? No Aston Martin? I mean, I guess they wouldn't get any sales out of the motor show, but at least they should turn up. This is the British Motor Show after all, not at some other country.
