Suzuki goes concept crazy for Tokyo show
Is it us, or are the concepts that come out of Japanese design studios completely, uniquely mad? Like they’ve been drawn by aliens that’ve learned human car design through some sort of intergalactic training course and are trying to hold down earth jobs under the radar? Just look at this. And this. And these.
More evidence, if it was needed, comes courtesy of Suzuki. It’s just revealed the Crosshiker, X-Lander, and Hustler concepts, which are off to next month’s Tokyo motor show.
Firstly, there’s the Crosshiker - the red one that looks like a tiny, melted Nissan Juke. It’s described by the manufacturer as a sort of b-side to the Regina concept shown in Tokyo back in 2011. It’s the size of a compact car and it only weighs 810 kg. Good job, because the engine’s a tiny 1.0-litre three-cylinder.
Next up is the X-Lander. Underneath the silver Judge Dredd sheetmetal, there’e a Suzuki Jimny platform, 1.3-litre engine nailed to an electric motor, which is linked with an automated manual ‘box.
Finally, Suzuki’s given us the wonderfully orange Hustler. It’s a crossover that slots into the minicar segment and has been carefully tailored to those that enjoy “an active lifestyle”. A coupe version’s joining it later, with the same “roomy, comfortable, and useful interior.”
Does this confirm Japan’s status as Weirdest Concept Nation?
