Classified ad of the week: Bugatti Veyron
So, when we asked you what the greatest car of the past 20 years was, you didn’t tell us it was the Ssangyong Rodius. Or the Chrysler Neon. Or the Pontiac Aztek. Which was a relief. More so when you chose the one car we could all agree on in the office - the Bugatti Veyron. When we first drove it, we warned “nothing prepares you for the shock of the acceleration when you open the throttle and unleash a thousand horses…”. But now, you can experience it for yourself…
All you need is a very reasonable £615,000 - a shade over two-and-a-half times the average British house price - and you can get yourself this. A 1,001hp, 922lb ft, 8.0-litre W16-powered 267mph physics sledgehammer. And the owner claims that this particular example is the UK’s first ever…
Yep, this was UK model number one, showed off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2006 (has it really been that long?) the vendor tells us it was the first UK Veyron. To prove it, there’s a special chassis plate with UK1 on it. Since it landed on our shores, it’s covered an impressive 7,500 miles.
It also comes complete with service history, MoT (er, we should hope so), the original handbook, a cover, battery charger, PDA, speed key (what you need to unlock its 253mph vmax) and an extra set of wheels and tyres. At £23,500 per corner just for the rubber, that’s already another £94,000 saved. Or a whole, brand new Nissan GT-R AND Micra. Who says Top Gear doesn’t do real-world consumer advice?
