Behind the scenes on this week’s Top Gear

  1. Grizzled veterans in the Top Gear production team were of one united opinion this week: show four in our twentieth series was the hottest ever.

Not because Hugh Jackman was down at the track trying to wring every last bit of performance out of our new Vauxhall Astra Techline. Not because we had a Mercedes SLS going head-to-head with its bright yellow electric counterpart. And not because we finally unveiled our urban transport solution to British flooding.

No, it was simply very hot. Over 30 degrees. And the air conditioning in the studio was on the blink.

Still, you’ve got a good show to look forward to this Sunday - we’ll see you as usual 8pm, BBC Two and BBC Two HD. Now click on for more of what happened down at Dunsfold…

  2. The accusations were flying back and forth…

  3. Jackman - Adamantium claws. Stig - Adamantium everything

  4. James calms his pre-show nerves with a soothing rendition of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You”.

  6. Phwoar. Check out the warranty on THAT.

  7. Jeremy finally gets round to using the DIY baptism kit James bought him for Christmas.

  8. Oh hey! It’s the 6.2-litre, 622bhp, 468lb ft, Mercedes SLS AMG Black.

  9. Hugh Jackman. Making every man look uglier since 1968.

  10. Clarkson and Jackman demonstrate their well-versed Lindy Hop routine.

  11. Jeremy wrangles with life’s big questions. Deep pan or thin and crispy?

  12. The producer’s insistence on a pre-show group hug wasn’t met with much enthusiasm.

  13. Stig and Jackman first met in the mid-seventies, when they were both working as doorman at Club Bongo International, Middlesbrough.
