Overall verdict

For:

It's small, affordable, and based on the loveable Fiat 500

Against:

It's not the loveable Fiat 500 you should have bought, you chump
Built in conjunction with Fiat, Ford drew the short straw here. Go for a 500

What we say:

What was once a brilliant fun small city car is now just run-of-the-mill ordinary

What is it?

Disappointing second-generation version of Ford’s groundbreaking 1990s city car. That model was a classic: this one is just a rehashed Fiat 500. Literally.

Driving

The Ka was once a byword for driving enjoyment, but that’s no longer the case with this one. The chassis shows no signs of the magic Ford DNA and the engines are weak. Where’s the fun gone, Ford?

On the inside

Although it looks quite different outside, the Ka’s Fiat roots show through within. The dash is straight from the 500, but without the lovely detailing which makes that special. It’s tight on space in there, too.

Owning

Economy is OK, reliability should be OK and there are lots of Ford dealers. It’s not as cheap as it should be though - and why buy this when you could buy a Fiat 500 instead?
