Crankcase - Metal Madness
Hang on, isn't that the grille off a Ford Cortina MkIV?
Probably, but I'm not very good with cars. However, I use their parts quite a lot because they often come in pairs so they're very good for eyes - once something has eyes, it's alive. I especially like hubcaps for eyes, so I look for these first.
What else do you use from cars?
Anything really, it depends what I think I can make out it when I see it. I made the front of a classic Mini into an Aztec-style face.
Do you get inspiration before or after you've seen a piece of scrap?
I usually get an idea as soon as I see something. For example, the moment I saw an engine from a Triumph motorbike I knew that it would make a great spacecraft. Alternatively, if I have an idea for something, the right piece always miraculously appears soon after.
'Ducting is very good for hanging from trees to make arms because it's so light and flexible'
You use washing machines too.
Yes, the drums are very good for making faces for my creations.
And heating ducts.
Ducting is very good for hanging from trees to make arms because it's so light and flexible.
Where do you get all this cra...uhh, 'material' from?
My local scrap yard. They're used to me looking for stuff now.
How about making rocket ships from washing-up liquid bottles?
Now that just sounds childish. Do you think I'm mad or something?
