Hollywood stunt maestro Steve Truglia hits the ground running in a modified Mini
"If you can persuade the Forces to loan you a Hercules C130 aircraft, the rest is comparatively easy. You'll need a very long runway, preferably one that stretches for about two miles.
"That's enough space to allow the Hercules to land and taxi along while the car exits rearwards down its tailgate ramp, and still have enough room to take off again.
"The type of car could vary, but a saloon or a small car - a Mini, for example - would be good. A 4x4 wouldn't be ideal because of its height; it's easy to roll cars during this manoeuvre.
"But whichever car you decide to use, make sure it's modified so the exhaust doesn't scrape or catch on the ramp as you roll backwards onto the runway.
"Practise rolling the car off the ramp at a slow speed to ensure it's properly aligned - the back wheels need to hit the Tarmac squarely and at exactly the same time.
"Remember to keep the engine of the car switched off until after the tailgate opens, to avoid gassing anyone inside the plane.
'With all four wheels on the Tarmac, the car will free-wheel at the same speed as the aircraft'
"As the car moves down the ramp, its wheels will be turning backwards. Switch on the engine but stay in neutral, so all you're doing is concentrating on keeping the car straight.
"There will be a point when the rear wheels come off the ramp and touch the runway, but the motion of the plane will be trying to pull the front wheels forwards.
"Whatever you do, don't apply the brakes or put the car into reverse. Gravity and the friction caused by the back wheels hitting the runway will carry the car off.
"With all four wheels on the Tarmac, the car will free-wheel at the same speed as the aircraft, which will be about 40 or 50mph.
"At this stage one of your options is to do a 180-degree handbrake turn to point the car in the opposite direction, put it into a low gear and drive away with some wheelspin for added drama. Three or four cars could be pumped out of the plane in sequence this way.
"Alternatively, as you hit the runway, slot it into third or fourth gear to match the road speed, then swing the car out from behind the aircraft and line yourself up alongside the plane, under the wing.
"Accelerate as hard as possible to make a show of keeping up with the plane, just before it takes off."
