Leg one starts - and then stops in traffic on the outskirts of New York. And then the police catch us up...

We're off! EPB and Alex are in the XKR. MH is driving the S-Type with me here in the front, PD in the back.
Just realising that typing this is making me carsick. Great.

And already we hit some roadworks. Bugger.
We found the appropriate leaving point and instantly lost EPB in the XKR. Half an hour later, and we're still flailing around the Holland Tunnel, trying to get out of NY and start the run proper, even though the clocks are already running. Not a good start.

Eventually we've made it out and EPB and MH start driving like they're running from the law. Serious speeds on freeways in the middle of the night.
It feels like Smokey and the Bandit IV (the shit edition). We eat apples, we drink energy drinks. Think I'm going to be sick, so have to stop typing this for a bit.

Everyone focuses on getting the XKR away from the fuel stop fast. Pat on the pump, I re-do the sat-nav in the XKR and wash the windscreen, MH and EPB hit the toilets. Next leg Alex jumps in with Pat and me; MH goes with EPB in the XKR.
3h 11m
The XKR's already gone - not too bad a stop. We're sat here having five minutes 'stretch' in the S-Type. We've already lost the XKR as it tries to set the pace - no point getting into trouble with the S-Type, although just to keep up we need to keep running at a similarly silly pace, we have decided.
We stock up on some more drink and sweets. No sign of any cops as yet, and we were told that this leg would be the one to watch out for.
6h 50m
Pat just got pulled. Has given me five minutes to send this report. Worried I'll make the cops suspicious, so I'll check back in an hour or so with an update. Hope he escapes a ticket...
