TransAm non-stop: leg one

10h 35m
MH phone call to say that they've entered Indianapolis. We're at least ten minutes behind in the chase car and I'm scheduled to drive next. Better get a move on.

A thought - when exactly am I going to sleep?!

10h 49m
EPB prepares to fly home and leave us boys to our fate. Feels like we've already done the trip and I've got about nine hours driving ahead of me before I can think about shutting my eyes.

'We finished leg one ? 711 miles ? in 10 hours and 35 minutes. That's an average of only 67mph. Shit'

Have just worked out that we finished leg one - 711 miles - in 10 hours and 35 minutes. That's an average of just over 67mph. Shit.

We're not even a third of the way there, and having just quickly checked out the maps, I don't think we'll get even close to the time - the averages we need to carry are well over 100mph, and the police aren't happy about that.

Plus, we don't have the fuel cells and extra tanks of the cars that did the run originally, so fuel and stuff will be a serious time lag. Not a good days sleep. Jet lag and caffeine comedown don't make for good bedfellows.

Worse still, all I've eaten for ages is a soggy sandwich and some more energy drink - and that was hours ago. I think. Am I really awake?

Enough. Better stop moaning and get on with it. Next update will be at our first stop in leg two, probably in a few hours. That should be somewhere on the way to Oklahoma City - and hopefully for fuel rather than a speeding ticket.

Over and out for now.
