Success! Pat and Alex are ahead of us. They were taken to the local courthouse and fined $400. But they got off! With 125mph!
Apparently a truck pulled out and they had to slow. Bad luck really, as the cop mentioned that the Crown Victorias they use top out at 131mph and Pat was three miles from the state line - and safety.
The cop mentions that this is his fastest ever nick. And in some bizarre turnaround, Pat manages to make friends. The cop eventually ends up taking pictures with the Jag, and asking Pat for a cup of coffee. Eh? How does the man do it? One minute public enemy number one, the next invited in for lunch with the Mayor?
MH and I have travelled 50 miles backwards. Bugger. The XKR is huge distance ahead now. So we wind on the speed. Miraculously Pat is STILL keeping up the average. The man is a legend. LEGEND. Although he has quite blatantly taken his brain right out for the duration of this run.
29h 15m (ish). Not really sure...
MH and I stop for fuel. In some place called Gallup. We've just been through the biggest rainstorm I have ever seen. Rushing through the spray from the trucks at 120mph is scary as hell.
MH and I are suffering. Smacking ourselves to combat fatigue, shooting drinks to stay awake. MH sleeps, I play thrash metal, MH tries to sleep. I play more thrash.
MH gets no sleep. I apologise for the thrash.

I've just been pulled outside Gallup for speeding through the roadworks. Quite a 'nice' pull actually. Just reminded to go slower. So I've broken my duck at last.

Almost at Flagstaff. Desert, cactus and stuff surround us and on the horizon are the BIGGEST TRAINS IN THE WORLD. Michael and I are singing like loons. We're nearly there. Pat and Alex are about 45mins ahead of us, thanks to the lost time. My stomach is weeping. I need to ingest something that isn't glowing.

Flagstaff at last and we've just had the full story on Pat's ludicrous law escape. This really is turning into some sort of comic book adventure. Like a dream. We find a restaurant that's open and order breakfast. I have steak and eggs. Steak. And eggs. We're doing the same thing AGAIN.
We just drove across New Mexico in a ludicrous time - leg three was dispatched in 11 hours 38 minutes. One more leg to go...
