Lose your licence, gain a chauffeur

Fancy your own chauffeur service for just £60 a year? It's simple - just lose your licence.

Motoring insurance company stayontheroad.com is offering a new policy that will cover all your travel expenses - trains, planes, even chauffeurs - if you break the 12-point barrier and get banned from driving.

Of course, it's designed as a conscientious safety net for those who depend on driving for their livelihood, but we can't help wondering if it's a cushy route to early retirement for lorry and taxi drivers.

And, given the perilous state of some of the licences here on Top Gear, for motoring journalists too. Stretch limo, here we come. Is the champagne included, Jeeves?

Obviously Top Gear cannot endorse the sort of driving that might lead to a long-term licencectomy. And we should probably read the small print...
