The Geneva motor show is nearly upon us, and TopGear.com is packing its toothbrush, passport and finest underwear before decamping to the land of triangular chocolate to bring you all the news from the show floor next week. It's set to be a monster event this year, with more new metal and strange concepts than ever before. Here's what we're looking forward to:
Abarth 500
Fiat's gorgeous little Cinq gets the scorpion treatment: lowered suspension, fat bodykit and 1.4-litre turbo engine putting out 135bhp. And that's before you've opted for the 180bhp 'essesse' upgrade. Which you will.
Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe
We've seen the Drophead convertible, and now the Phantom has gone two-door. Stiffer springs and heavier suspension mated to the tectonic 453bhp V12 will make this the sportiest Rolls ever. That's a relative term, naturally.
Alfa Romeo 8C Spider
Alfa has cut the roof off its gorgeous 8C to create a convertible with more posing potential than David Beckham in a House of Mirrors. Just 500 will be built, so you'd better be quick with your chequebook.
Ford Fiesta
Stop press: the Fiesta ain't boring any more. The Ford designers have carried over the stunning Verve concept almost wholesale to create what might just be the handsomest little supermini ever.
Maserati GranTurismo S
Thing of beauty the GT may be, but it's always been a bit toothless for our tastes. So the news that Maser has wedged the 4.7-litre V8 from the Alfa 8C into the GranTurismo makes us happier than Bob Lutz in an oil refinery.
Mini Works
The fastest Mini ever? With a whopping 208bhp from its boosted-up 1.6-litre turbo engine, the JCW Mini could be just the car to rid the world of throttle-happy estate agents. It won't come cheap, though.
Mitsubishi Prototype S
Concept it might be, but the Prototype S shows us exactly what the Lancer hatch will look like when it arrives later this year. Good, in a word. Only problem is, there's no Evo version planned. Let the pestering begin.
VW Scirocco
It's being kept under tighter security than the roof of the Houses of Parliament (not difficult, true), but the Scirocco coupe - previewed by 2006's show-stealing Iroc concept - could be the big unveiling of the show.
Volvo XC60
Looking worryingly unlike a sensible family estate, Volvo's baby crossover heads the Geneva soft-roader invasion. Closely followed by the Ford Kuga and Toyota Urban Cruiser. Who said the SUV was dead?
More? You want more? OK, how about the production version of the Atom-rivalling KTM X-Bow, the Audi A4 Avant, BMW X5 hybrid and Peugeot 308 GT? We even hear rumours of a (very) special-edition Bugatti Veyron making an appearance, but we can't promise anything.
Rest assured that whatever happens in Geneva next week - and we're expecting the unexpected - we'll be first on the scene. Check back to TopGear.com throughout the week for all the latest news, pictures and opinion. And Toblerone, if you're lucky.
