BBC secures F1 TV rights

F1 is to return to the BBC after a 12-year absence. F1 commercial guru Bernie Ecclestone has signed the deal that will see Hami and Kimi duke it out on BBC TV, radio and on the internet from 2009.

"The BBC has some innovative ideas to consolidate and expand our UK fan base," said Ecclestone. Among the plans are to broadcast F1 races live on the BBC website.

Dominic Coles, BBC Sport director of sport rights added: "F1 is a crown jewel of sports broadcasting, so to bring the rights back to their traditional home from 2009 is tremendously exciting."

Uninterrupted F1, online, on TV and on radio sounds good to us, although the BBC isn't telling how much they paid Bernie for the privilege.

We don't care... so long as they bring back the Fleetwood Mac theme tune. All together now: "Da....da-da-da-d-d-da-da-da-daaa..."
