Silence of the Lambs

The Gallardo Superleggera is dead. Already.

After just one year and 172 examples, Lambo's lightweight baby has been canned to make way for the new LP560-4.

It was always likely to happen - with its bored-out 5.2-litre V10, the new Gallardo is more powerful and quicker than the lightweight Superleggera - but it's an ignominious end for the car that propelled JC along the Greatest Road in the World in double-quick time.

At least those 172 owners are sitting on guaranteed collectors' items now, though. Especially if they happened to spec their Superleggera in white.

Only 10 white cars were built, alongside 34 in grey, 37 in black, 45 in yellow and 46 in orange - which proves at least that material wealth is no guarantee of good taste.

Don't give up on the Superleggera formula just yet, Lambo. A stripped-out LP560-4 with even more power and fury is just fine by us.
