LF-A hits the 'Ring

This year's Nürburgring 24 Hour race is turning into a concept car shootout. Not only will we see a trio of race-prepped Sciroccos, but Lexus has just announced that the awesome LF-A concept car will get its first public outing around the Green Hell next month.

Yes, that's the V10-powered, 500bhp-plus LF-A with a rumoured top speed in excess of 200mph.

Only problem is, it's not really going to be racing. Lexus says it will run the concept in the 24 hour race 'as part of ongoing development... to acquire knowledge that can be used to further the vehicle's overall development'.

Hmm. Lexus adds that the LF-A won't be a dedicated race car, and that the drivers will 'provide feedback to the Lexus development team rather than achieving a race result'.

All of which sounds a bit like a get-out clause if it all goes belly-up at the 'Ring. However, we can't really imagine Lexus debuting its long-awaited supercar in half-arsed fashion - so expect the LF-A to be somewhat more competitive than the company would lead you to believe.

If you don't believe us, take a quick look at this viral clip of the car in testing.

Impressive, eh?

Roll on May 24.
