It seems like a new lap record of the Nurburgring is set every week, but that's not stopping manufacturers from going for it.

Just as we get to drive the Corvette ZR-1 for the first time - that broke the record, erm, maybe last week - so news reaches us of the Dodge Viper ACR setting a rather quick 7:22.

We say rather quick, we mean mind bendingly fast.

We don't yet know if it's official, but it certainly looks good enough for us. We're now very intrigued to see what the Nissan GT-R V-Spec will do when it's ready, as that did an unofficial 7:25 earlier this year.

Things are certainly looking up for the Yanks this week in the car world.
