Suzuki is looking to tempt US buyers away from their traditional huge SUVs with the launch of the SX4 at the New York Auto Show.

The SX4 makes its US debut ahead of the first cars reaching customers in the UK.

British buyers are limited to the front-wheel-drive models at present, which are fitted with the 1.6-litre petrol engine.

Prices start at £9,999 for the GL model, with the GLX coming in at £1000 more.

A Fiat-sourced 1.9 turbodiesel unit will join the range in the summer, along with the four-wheel-drive 4GRIP models.
