Dodge Charger: pure, unadulterated machismo
They reprised the Charger in '05, but for the real deal you have to reach back to the Sixties' and early Seventies' heyday of muscle. Based on the Coronet, the Charger was a response to the 'fastback' craze started by the Mustang and Barracuda and always had plenty of twitch to go with the looks: from the 381ci to the engine that everyone still drools over, the 426 Hemi.
What makes it better is the fact Dodge lied about the outputs from the Hemi engine; it was reported to produce 425bhp, but actually chucked out nearer to 500bhp (and that's in relatively mild street tune). The later 1967 R/T Chargers carried a larger '440 Magnum' engine, but real racers wanted a Hemi. Shame only a few were made - the engine added a third to the price!
