Bentley Speed 8: a blessed marriage of German nous and British beef
We could tell you that at Le Mans in 2003, the Bentley Speed 8 recorded a fastest speed of 202mph - mid-way through a corner. That it ate its way through 11 sets of wheels and tyres. That it covered a race distance equivalent to travelling from London to Bucharest and then back, or that its twin turbo V8 drank its way through 2,600 litres of motorsport-spec super unleaded, or even that not one mechanical component failed. Who said it's not cool to try hard?
And yet, all this now appears irrelevant. Just a single stat endures. That year, with its stunning aero-cleaved, speed-morphed, bug-massacring bodywork and Audi mechanicals, the great British underdog became a winner. In the racing world, there's nothing more seductive.
