Ferrari Enzo: falling victim to seduction by numbers
Of course the Enzo is a shatteringly brilliant drive, but there are one or two other supercars as good as the Enzo that didn't make the top 100. This says more about us than it says about Ferrari. It says that even sexiness, that most elusive quality, can be artificially synthesised. Ferrari knows rarity is sexy in itself, so it limited the number of Enzos built.
Ferrari knows that danger can be sexy, so it imbued the Enzo with menacing visual aggression. Ferrari knows the thrill of competition can be sexy, so it littered the Enzo in motorsport cues, even though it was never meant to race. It's even named after the founder to reinforce the aura of petrolheaded aristocracy. Ferrari, coldly and calculatedly, has pushed all our buttons. We know we're powerless to resist.
