The practicality of an Audi TT. Now there's something you don't hear very often. You're more likely to hear about the small windscreen and low ceiling, making it tricky to see when traffic lights change from red. Or you'll hear about the small back seats and the scarcity of head- and leg-room in the cabin's rear quarters. These things I won't deny. But let me tell you what I got into our long-term TT the other weekend: two electric guitars in cases (one quite wide), a guitar amp/speaker combo that has two 10-inch speakers in it, two guitar stands, a case the size of a medium suitcase that holds five effects pedals, a power supply, guitar leads, a four-way plugboard and a book of chord charts, a cased tenor saxophone, a tambourine, two sets of gig clothes, a saxophonist and myself. Obviously, the back seats were folded down, but that's still pretty impressive, huh? And the great thing is that when you turn up to a gig in something like this, everyone thinks, 'Wow, he must be a good and successful guitarist to afford that car.' If only they knew...
