What to look for
The previous generation of
3-Series is still a fabulous
car. There's very little that
troubles them, but be on
the look out for personally
imported cars. Many were
brought into the country
due to the big savings that
could be made, but they
came with lesser spec and
will be worth less when you
come to sell.
Used Prices
Last of the old shape
3-Series is currently in big
demand by BMW dealers
due to buyers who can't
afford the new model. a
three-year old 325i SE is
worth £13,000 and a 330i
Sport is still £18,500. The
old estate's prices are also
holding firm and still cost a
couple of grand more than
the saloons.
Our Choice
The best engine out of the
entire range, has to be the
gloriously smooth three-litre
straight-six petrol. it's
that quiet, you'll burn out
the ignition by not thinking
it's running. The SE trim
has the basic necessities,
although finding a sport
would be better. The 3
received final facelift in
2003 and, although it was
cosmetic, as the most
modern version it will sell
quicker. Finally, a Touring
will be a practical estate
that holds its values better
than the saloon. A 330i
Sport Touring for us please.
