Performance
Power in the Chrevolet Tacuma comes from a 1.6-litre, 103bhp
petrol or a two-litre with about 15 per cent more grunt. Neither are particularly exciting, revvy or refined.
Driving
Not a great drive, but it has an
absorbent ride quality and fine body
control over bendy roads.
Space
There's lots of room for five inside, with
generous head and legspace. The boot
is large and the rear seats can be
removed to increase loadspace.
Build Quality
Sturdy engines and running gear but
interior materials are of a poor quality.
Equipment
There are just two models, the SX and
CDX. Both have electric windows, climate
control and a CD player as standard.
Safety
The Tacuma has anti-lock brakes and
two front airbags. No side 'bags though.
Owning
It'll be a cheap little thing to run due to
okay fuel economy and insurance costs
but it will be ravaged by depreciation.
Value
Although marketed as a budget people-carrier,
it's no cheaper than other, better
cars such as the Citroen Picasso.
Verdict
It may be a practical and economical
way to transport five people, but there
are better-built and more flexible
MPVs for the same price.
