Performance
There's a V8 that develops 325bhp and
258bhp V6. The V8 doesn't disappoint,
cracking 62mph in just seven seconds.
Driving
Softly sprung and poorly damped, so it
rolls in the corners, wallows over longer
undulations and also manages to transmit
too many vibrations into the cabin.
Space
Offers more than enough room for three
adults in the rear. You can also get seven
seats. These fold electrically, take an age
do so and don't provide a huge amount
leg room when they whirr into place.
Build quality
Doesn't compare well with a £30k
European SUV. The interior feels cheap
and the switch locations are bizarre (the
rear wiper button is on the ceiling).
Equipment
Offers what you'd expect for a £30k car
such as air con and lots of electric toys.
Safety
A total of six airbags as standard.
You also get seatbelt pretensioners.
Owning
Both engines aren't very economical,
with the V6 returning just 20mpg. Road
fund tax will be high due to a big CO2
footprint. What Kyoto agreement?
Value
It's on the pricey side. For the entry
level £30k you could buy a Discovery.
Verdict
Okay, it's different from the standard
but often faceless SUV but in this
case, different doesn't mean better.
