The Italian bike manufacturer had recently been in the global petrolhead spectrum when Volkswagen had reportedly put the brand ahead for evaluation. Expectedly, the internet was awash with speculations of the VW Group up to selling off the Ducati brand, but it all fizzled out. Ducati's been having a good year though and it's been expanding and updating its India portfolio, and now it's bringing in a fresh pair of road-focussed sports bikes - the SuperSport and the SuperSport S.

This is the same Ducati SuperSport that was voted as the most beautiful bike at EICMA 2016, an impressive accolade given the competition like the MV Agusta Dragster 800RC and the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. Powering it is the 937cc twin-cylinder Ducati Testastretta 11° engine which has been redesigned with a new crankcase, new heads and new alternator cover for the new gear sensor mounting. Ducati says even the engine and injection control systems are new. The result? 108bhp at 9000rpm and 93Nm of thrust at 6500rpm through its 6-speed gearbox. That’s plenty for something with a kerb weight of 210kg. Stopping power for the SuperSport uses two 320mm semi-floating discs with Brembo callipers up front and a 245mm disc at the rear, with Bosch ABS on both ends. It packs plenty of Ducati tech too including riding modes, power modes, a Full-LCD display and Ducati Safety Pack too.

Ducati has scheduled the SuperSport for launch in India on September 22 and bookings are already open. Prices? We estimate a tag of approximately Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) with a slight premium for the S variant.
