KTM teases the 1290 Super Duke R
It's coming - the biggest, maddest Duke of them all will be revealed in just 11 days' time!
We'd already seen a glimpse of the production version in the KTM 1290 Super Duke R Prototype which was shown to the world at EICMA last year, and now, it's almost ready. KTM has shared a little teaser of the finished item, which highlights styling cues that were present on the prototype as well - the sinuous fuel tank, a minimalistic seat and a greatly-raised tail section, they've all been retained.
Details will only be released closer to its unveil, but what we do know is that the craziest Duke of them all will employ a derivative of the RC8 R's V-twin motor, which will be teamed to a six-speed manual gearbox. This will be a slightly detuned version of the superbike engine, but even then, expect power to be in the region of 160-170bhp. Torque should be immense, too.
The prototype did not feature a headlamp or a tail-lamp, which should be the first noticeable additions on the road-going Super Duke, along with a stubby, stock exhaust replacing the Akrapovic example. A steel trellis frame, Brembo brakes, rear monoshock and those lovely dual-tone rims should be present on the bike when it is revealed in a little over 11 days' time.
Until then, you could watch a little clip that KTM has released below. Involves a noisy soundtrack and a rider indulging in a bit of hooliganism at a racetrack astride the Super Duke. Or, if you just can't wait, you can count down the many days and hours to go for the reveal on the 1290 Super Duke website.
Nissan has their own version of the popular Duster. And in many ways, the Terrano is a notch above Renault's offering. It's all there in our video review. ..Watch full Video
