Launched: Royal Enfield Bullet 500
Take standard Bullet, plonk the 499cc UCE motor, paint the bike green and voilà! Enter the new Bullet 500
Ever since the Royal Enfield Classic 500 was launched, there have been whispers about the introduction of a carburetted version of the same 499cc mill. After teasing us with a tasty-looking silhouette for the last two weeks, Royal Enfield has now revealed that those whispers were not unfounded: the Bullet 500 is here.
What's the difference, you ask? Well, aesthetically speaking, the classic RE logo is back on the 500's fuel tank, twin-pilot lamps borrowed from the Classic series appear on this bike too and the single-piece seat for the rider and the pillion also carries a cushiony grabrail.
The standard Bullet, which was only available with a 350cc motor up until now, now gets an air-cooled, carburetted version of the 499cc UCE engine. Electronic Fuel Injection? Out of the window.
That does however reflect in the 500's specifications. Power is down from 27.2bhp to 26.1 bhp, and torque too dips from 41.3Nm to 40.9Nm. With the bike still weighing a portly 193kg, the dip in power is bound to show in the way the bike performs.
The Bullet 500 is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, rides on a 19" front and an 18" rear tyre with front telescopic forks and twin gas shocks for company. Stopping power is provided by a disc upfront and a drum at the back.
RE hasn't announced prices for the Bullet 500 yet, with the initial launch only scheduled for a few select cities. We expect it to slot in somewhere between the Bullet 350 and the Classic series. And oh, just before you leave, if you intend to buy one, there is a new shade available on the 500 - Forest Green - which is frankly, the shade you should buy it in.
